Let's look at this Laywoman – Wang, Xueqin. The ordinary people have a pair of healthy legs, but Laywoman Wang has only one. She got bone cancer and had twenty surgeries. Before learning Buddhism, she got this disease. Some people offered her an advice: You need eat something to take a tonic; Here is a prescription you need to drink. Tell her to catch a centipede and cut off its legs. Then mix it with herb. So, your bone cancer can be healed. Seeing the broken-legged centipede in the medicine, she suddenly realized: Is it the same with me? I probably made this karma of cutting off somebody's legs,

so I've got this retribution. Could it be karma that I got bone cancer on my leg, have 20 times surgeries, and have one leg amputated? After she suddenly woke up, she tossed the herb away and said: “I would rather die than take this herb.”
So, people have to wake up. Many people are vegetarians and also chant the Buddha. When they are sick, people recommend eating meat because it is more nutritious and beneficial for healing. Then they break the pure precept holding for years. That's so pitiful.
There was someone in the past being vegetarian and chanting Buddha for years. Later, he got sick. It is because of his lack of understanding of Buddhism that he complains. “I've been a vegetarian for so many years, but I was still sick like this, he said.
A friend of him heard this and said: “Everyone eating five grains will get sick. Birth, aging, sickness, and death are the natural stages for humans.

You are okay. Just a little sick because you are a vegetarian. If you were not a vegetarian, it's hard to say how you could become.”
But he still complained. His friend said: “How about this? You complain that you have no merit for being a vegetarian. Would you sell your merit of being a vegetarian to me?”
“I can sell the merit of being a vegetarian for money. Well, I sell it to you.” The man calculated how much merit he could get by being a vegetarian for a year and how much money it would be converted into. Then his friend asked him to write a pledge, and he wrote a pledge that he sells the merit of being a vegetarian for years to so-and-so for how much money.
His friend took the pledge back home delightedly. He was also joyful that he sold the merit of being a vegetarian.
That night he fell asleep and had a dream.
3:00
Two ghosts came to seize him and said: Originally, this man was scheduled to die early. Fortunately, he became a vegetarian and committed less killing sin. Hence, his lifespan got extended. But he sold his merits today, and he over lives. We must seize him back hurriedly.
The man was astonished and said: “Hold on a minute. I will ask my merits back.”
“Okay, we will pause temporarily. You go ask it.”
The next day, he rushed to his friend's home with the money, “I return you money, you return me the pledge.”
“There is no way I can give it back.” Why? “I took the pledge home happily yesterday and incinerated it in the hall, and I've got the merit.”
As a result, when he returned home, he was at his last gasp.

Further, she was determined to be a volunteer in the hospital. Based on her own experience with bone cancer over the years, she urges those who try to commit suicide to stop such karmic thoughts and persuade them to bear Buddha in mind to avoid hardship and gain happiness.

She ever limped on crutches to advise a patient who attempted suicide. As soon as he entered the ward, the patient said: Oh, you are missing a leg, and you dare to advise others.
She said confidently and directly, “I am not missing a leg, but I have one more leg. Look!”
