Rebirth Example - Laywoman Hong, The More Suffer, the More Devote 洪秀玉居士 病苦益切

Another one, Laywoman Hong, Xiuyu. Everyone knows at one glance that she is a housewife who has suffered from the pressure of life and has been crippled by time. Her family cannot make ends meet. She devoted herself to raising her children. As a result, she got breast cancer in her 50s, when she was not very old. Nowadays, I heard many women have contracted breast cancer. Doctors say, many women contracted breast cancer now. In research, they give birth to babies but are less likely to feed them mother milk, which is unnatural and probably leads to various side effects. So now, on the contrary, they advocate that mothers should fulfill their heavenly duties to feed their babies breast milk themselves.

That is good for both mothers and babies.
As a result, the breast cancer was so large that she can't wear clothes. The chest and arms were swollen and bleeding, and pus was flowing too. On seeing that, we felt sad. She lay there with only one breath. Her children contacted us to urge her to recite the Buddha's name. Back then, we prescribed according to her symptoms, telling her to let go of this stinky fur bag, which is fake, and don't be bothered by it. You chant your Buddha. On hearing our explanation, she thought that's wonderful. Originally, she felt in pain and thought of pin. The more she thought, the more painful it was. Everything is created from your mind. Thus, she turn her mind. Then she told her cancer,

“You are fake. I chant my Buddha. I don't mind if you are suffering, and I just chant my Buddha.” Thus, she changed her mind, and the pain was relieved. Her children were so filial that they also chanted Buddha by her bedside in a long term. Many Lotus friends were touched to see how sick Laywoman Hong was, and she still recited the Buddha with all her heart. Some accompanied her in chanting Buddha.
One day, we were chatting, “Laywoman Hong is very pious and that the Buddha’s birthday will be in a few days. It will be terrific if she can be reborn that day.” As a result, she fulfilled our vow and chose the birthday of this Buddha to be reborn.

Originally, the cancer swollen like that would stink badly. In fact, it was created by her mind. As a result, on that day of her rebirth, her room was full of exotic aroma. Not only there were no stinky smell of cancer, but there were exotic aroma, and her mind was right and clear. After cremation, there burnt out a lot of relics, and it touch her husband and children. Afterward, they were more dedicated to cultivating and chanting Buddha.
We admire laywoman Hong for her diligence in reciting the Buddha despite her painful illness.
So, it says well in the sutra, First, you need to have competence while at rest. If your competence reaches 10 points at rest, you will have one point left while you move. Second, if you have full competence of chanting Buddha while you move, you will have 10% left in the dream.

Third, if your competence to recite Buddha in a dream reaches 10 points, then you will only have 1 point during your illness. Fourth, if you can chant Buddha during illness. You have seen several examples, those practitioners could chant the Buddha during illness. Laywoman Wang Xiao could chant Buddha during illness. This one is even better. Laywoman Jiang, as it said in the sutra, regarding illness as medicine, regarding hardship as teacher, was dedicating to chanting Buddha even more. They all succeeded eventually. If you can chant Buddha during illness, you can chant Buddha at the end of life.
