Rebirth Example ????Venerable Layman Li Bingnan - To shine afar, I spare nothing but burn myself

(English subtitles) 李炳南老居士 - 續佛慧命 This is a rebirth example in the Land of Bliss (Sukhavati) from Taiwan. Lectured by The Return Thinker 思歸子。
Subtitles: I have talked about many lotus friends who have wonderful phenomena when they are reborn. We must think about the source when drinking. That's because we have a good teacher – the founder of the Lotus Society, our revered teacher – Layman Li Bingnan, nick name: snow elder.
As the proverb says: When studying Confucianism or Buddhism, it is essential to have a lineage of teachings. No matter what you are learning, the most valuable thing is that you need a teacher. In addition, you need a good teacher. Fortunately, Buddha blessed us so that we could get close to our favorable Teacher Li.

The venerable Teacher Li was born in a scholarly family. He served as a prison warden in mainland China when he was young, so he has a deep understanding of human nature.
He relocated to Taiwan with the government in 1949. He then immediately set out to find places to preach the sutra and expound the Dharma. That is a historical photo of him preaching the sutra as early as 1949 in Taiwan. Sitting in the middle is Teacher Li, and the one wearing sunglasses on the second left is Teacher Zou Xuande, the founder of the university's Buddhist club, and also the student of Teacher Li. Therefore, people say that Teacher Li was the first person in Taiwan to advocate the Pure Land School. This is the proof.

Why did he do that? Because Teacher Li has seen so many disasters because people don't obey the teachings of Confucius or the transcendent Buddha. So he came to Taiwan because he said it is a precious island. Why is that? He said that almost every household worships Buddha. Even if you visit a family in a remote mountain village, you will see Buddha statues when going in their house. Furthermore, they worship their ancestors and pay homage to Confucius. So, he has confidence.
When he came to Taiwan, he was 60. He was born during the end of Qing Dynasty. He jokingly said that before he turned 60, he was a disaster escape expert.

The chaos brought about by the changing times forced him to flee. From dynasty to republic, warlords, and Japanese. Various disasters like these, and he finally retreated to Taiwan to escape from the communist.
However, he said Taiwan is a safe place where having the sacred teachings of Confucianism and Buddhism. He was full of confidence and claimed: I no longer need to be on the run. He devoted the remaining vigor of late years, pouring out his heart and soul for 37 years, to advocating Buddhism, for the sake of no more tragedies of families tearing apart and people decease. When conditions was ripe, he established the first Buddhist association in Taiwan – Taichung Buddhist Lotus Society. What is the Lotus Society for? To advocate two types of knowledge.

Following Master Yinguang teaching: You have to first learn how to behave as a good person before learning Buddhism. To become a good person in the world, you have to learn from Confucius. So, he promoted Confucianism. The Lotus Society has been teaching it nonstop for 40 years.
Teach everyone to set their mind on the right way, abide by virtue, rely on benevolence, and roam freely in the skills. He said: This is the essence of Chinese culture. The reason why current education is unsuccessful is that students don't follow the teachings of sages, lack moral cultivation, and only focus on skills and grades.

They completely lack basic moral principles of respecting parents and treating others kindly. These are not taught. Further, preaching sutra and expounding dharma is for promoting the Pure Land Sect that is achievable in this life.
Teacher Li has written a book – “The Buddha dharma that is achievable in this lifetime,” that has bee printed and distributed many times in Taiwan. A thin booklet, telling the method to be achieved in this lifetime. It's crucial to follow the instruction in the sutra, which is also the right cause for all Buddhas to practice the pure karma.
1. Filial piety towards parents, serving teachers, compassion and non-killing, cultivating the ten virtues. 2. Take Three Refuges. Uphold precepts. Do not lose dignity or manners.

3. Develop Bodhicitta. Have deep faith in cause and effect. Recite Mahayana. Encourage others to practice. Such three things are called pure karma.
If you are a Pure Land practitioner, then do as instructed. Teacher Li has lectured sutra for over forty years since the time he was in mainland China. He claimed that it's critical to convert to the Pure Land and the Bliss World.
In this degenerate age, practicing Pure Land Buddhism is the wisest course of action, teaching us the smartest method. All things arise and cease due to causal conditions. One must not be ignorant of cause and effect. This is a right insight.
