Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

Now let's see Venerable Layman Tusa Wu.
He is the father of Jinzhang Wu, who is at our Analects class, Lotus Society. Elder Wu lived in Taidong, where is a remote area. There is no Dharma to learn. When his wife passed away, her funeral follows the secular custom. Rescue and press a while, if not working, declare death and change clothing. Then put in funeral home and mortuary, and freeze it, dealing with it in secular ways.
Thanks to his child, who was studying in the China Medical University in Taichung at that time. There is a Buddhist medical king society in the Medical University. He knew dharma. On hearing his mother's death, he hurried back to Taidong. When reaching home, he knew his mother had been put in the fridge. He rushed to the funeral home and opened the the fridge.
He invited his mother out and saw that she had become rigid and showed a pained facial expression. Regardlessly, Doctor Wu led the whole family, young and old, chanted the Buddha to her mom. They kept chanting, their filial piety could touch the Buddha. Though Mrs. Wu was deceased, frozen and rigid, they kept chanting this way, her facial expression transformed gradually and became very peaceful. She's getting softer and softer.

On seeing that, Mr. Wu was so touched. Since then, he started to study Buddhism and chant Buddha due to his wife's decease.
After Wu was graduated from the school, he established a buddhist family in Taichung. He is a filial Buddhist so that he invited his father to move to Taichung.
It's an excellent environment for Mr. Wu to learn Buddhism in Taichung. He often listened to sermons, chant the Buddha, and help with chanting. There were many lotus fellows, and he was so dedicated to practicing.
Though he didn't specially study many sutras, he copied many sutras with a brush. He probably had copied sutras over 1000 times, including the Five Sutras of the Pure Land Dharma and the Earth Store Sutra.
The most incredible thing is that he copied the entire thick book of Pure Land Sages from beginning to end Such a thick book. It's even not easy to read from beginning to end. With a brush, from the very beginning, Amitabha, Avalokitesvara, Mahasthamaprapta, tfrom the dynasties, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing, till republic, and to Taiwan, he copied these various stories about rebirth once. His mind had merged into the impression of these people who have been reborn.
What he admired most was Patriarch Yinguang's ease of rebirth.

He was dedicated to studying master's treatise. It's said he read his treatise six times. I ever heard he personally recited one paragraph of his articles to me.
If you have elders at home, they usually feel lonely when young family go out to work or school. However, Mr. Wu did the exact opposite. It's said the real practitioner is willing to be lonely.
He told me that his son and daughter-in-law went to work, and grandchildren went to school. It's time for nobody to interfere at home. He has a good habit of daily life, which is to have a regular schedule every day. He doesn't let up at all. When to chant Buddha; when to take a nap; when to do chores; when to take a bath; when to take a rest;
As time went by, he practiced this diligently, working hard according to his schedule.
So, his daughter-in-law said, I can tell what time it is by looking at what my dad is doing. Look, a layman at home could have such persistence. That's excellent.
So-called: Indifference expresses ambition, tranquility leads to advance. Thereafter, he got achievement.
The day before his rebirth, he told his son and daughter-in-law: I am going to be reborn. His daughter-in-law thought: the elder, 84, was healthy. Why did he suddenly come up with this word? Thought he was joking and didn't pay attention.

That evening, I went to visit his house, chanting Buddha and talking about dharma. When we were chatting happily, Wu suddenly grabbed my hands and said, Layman Huang, tomorrow I am going to Amitabha's lotus land. On hearing that, I congratulated him instantly, saying, Mister, that's great. You knew it in advance, and you are not sick or in pain. At such an old age of 84, you are able to be reborn in peace. That is outstanding.
Then I asked him: you are going to be reborn tomorrow. You chant Buddha 50,000 times per day, such a hardworking practitioner. Would you leave a word to us? He didn't hesitate and said, Yes. Strive to chant the Buddha's name. The more you chant, the more you like chanting. He spoke in Taiwanese: Strive to chant the Buddha's name. The more you chant, the more you like chanting.
Everyone should keep this critical phrase in mind. Master Yinguang said it well: Only those who are dedicated to chanting the Buddha can enjoy the endless taste of chanting.
