Subtitles:
Once upon a time, there is a country sitting between blue mountains and green water, where the soil is fertile and the production is abundant. The king is a devout Buddhist, and in addition to running the country in an orderly manner, he also promoted Buddhism and honored the Three Jewels. The people in the country are also simple and kind. Under the influence of the King, all the people observed the 5 Precepts and 10 Virtues.
Young Brother. Old Brother. We have collected numerous sutras and classic books in our temple. Why do you only practice the Lotus Sutra as your daily course? I heard of a dharma master who practiced only one sutra in his life. After enlightenment
, he comprehended other scriptures as well. I think as long as I understand one sutra thoroughly and enter the dharma realm, I will understand the others.
Well, that makes sense, and I hope you can attain fruition soon.
Master, the king came to worship the Buddha and said he would make offerings to all the monks. Bro, I haven't yet finished my morning course. May I pay homage to the king after my course is completed?
You may. Summon all the monks to the grand hall to welcome the king.
2:00
May I ask master, Are all the monks of the temple here?
One monk hasn't finished his course, he is... Your Majesty, here he comes.
Master, nice to see you again.
That monk is not outstanding in knowledge or cultivation, nor has meritorious or divine deeds.
Why did you give him such a big offering?
Things you may not know. That master practice Mahayana. Seemingly clumsy, but he secretly practiced the Bodhisattva way. Don't judge him by his appearance.
How do you know that?
Back then when I was just enthroned. With so many official documents and reports, when can I read them all? How did the father deal with these reports?
When the previous king was still alive, he used to read these documents and issue orders all night long. He said these reports reflected people's sufferings and worried that he might miss something and trap people in dire straits.
In that case, what's the fun in being a king? I quit. I want to do what I like.
May King calm your anger. I heard that on the hill behind our palace lives a master who is practicing. He makes people wise. If you have superior wisdom, you can quickly handle these documents.
I wonder how amazing he is.
That is where the master is practicing.
It's on fire, find someone to put out the fire. Why did such a big fire suddenly go out?
It's not like firelight, it's like Buddha light.
So, that master is a Bodhisattva. Hurry up, come with me to bow to the Bodhisattva. Nothing here. Were we just dazzled?
4:00
Your Majesty, it's almost dawn.
Divine being has come.
When the Buddha had taught this sutra, the entire great assembly of bodhisattvas including Samantabhadra, the śrāvakas including Śāriputra,
devas, nāgas, humans, and nonhumans rejoiced greatly, accepted the Buddha’s words, bowed to him and departed.
The divine being, please teach me the way to handle the reports and documents quickly.
Who is speaking outside? Please come in.
Master, where did the divine being outside go?
The being who was shining all over his body and riding on an elephant with six teeth.
You might be talking about Samantabhadra?
Samantabhadra made a vow that if a man recited the Lotus Sutra, he would ride an white elephant with six teeth and teach him as an offering. Because I recite today, the Bodhisattva came to bless me.
Later I followed the master to learn the Lotus Sutra. My mind settled down and I no longer felt aversion to reading reports and documents. Finally, I am like the former king who was loved and respected by the people.
He must have had good cultivation, so he could get such inspiration from the Bodhisattva that the king treated him respectfully and made great offerings.
Since then, all the monks in the temple especially respected him and followed him to learn Lotus Sutra.
