Rebirth Example ???? The Vow to the Bliss World is Fulfilled 朱鏡宙老居士 – 有願必成

(English subtitles) This is a rebirth example in the Land of Bliss (Sukhavati) from Taiwan. Lectured by The Return Thinker 思歸子。

Let's look at this venerable layman Zhu, Jingzhou. He is an elder with profound knowledge and noble moral character, and is smart in every way. When he set his heart on studying Buddhism, he took to it like a duck to water as soon as he encountered Buddhism due to his great Confucian foundation, and swam freely in the ocean of Dharma and reveled in the taste of it.
In the past, he practiced very competently. When he was in the office, he had the ability of calm to know that someone was writing to him from home.

Because people used to write with brushes, and he smelt the aroma of ink. Oh, someone is writing to me. He has such competency. He was the first representative of the National Congress of the Republic of China. When he retreated to Taiwan with the government, he felt the importance of Buddhism. When he came to Taiwan from the main land, he felt the importance of Buddhism. He established a printing shop and was determined to print Buddhist sutras. So, many early Buddhist sutras came from his printing shop.
He recalled that he traveled to many places and met many people from all walks of life.

The only person he could trust with his life and death was Teacher Li from our Lotus Society. This is written in his memoir. He vowed that one day Teacher Li would help him with chanting the Buddha for his rebirth. He was half a year older than Teacher Li. They both lived into their 90s. Who knew who will go first? But layman Zhu had such a vow and finally succeeded. He knew the time of his rebirth in advance, and gradually reduced his food intake, even fasting, and prepared to be reborn.
Fortunately, he met Teacher Li when he was young. He once confessed something to him.

He said, Though he had been studying Buddhism for many years, he had a bad habit. He likes to hit cockroaches. On seeing cockroaches, he couldn't help but to hit them. Teacher Li repeatedly reminded him that he should repent properly and change this bad habit. He said, We Buddhists should never kill beings. Every being had Buddha nature, we shouldn't killing lives.
Once, he was reading a book when a cockroach went past him, he couldn't resist hitting the roach but missed it. He fell off his chair and broke his leg. For this reason, he had been sitting on a wheelchair for 40 years.

Based on his own experience with karma, he advises everyone to refrain from killing.
When he was going to be reborn, he coincidentally came into contact with Teacher Li. Then Teacher Li visited him in the hospital, and the two elderly met and nodded to each other. Then Teacher showed him the dharani quilt, and he nodded too. Then Teacher covered him with the quilt and began to chant the Buddha. After chanting a few minutes, he left. Just when Teacher arrived at home, he was reborn. Teacher said, Who else is he waiting for except me?
See, people's sincerity really can induce and summon. The two were all in their 90s, and he vowed to acquire chanting help from the Teacher..

Though he was in the hospital, his vow had been fulfilled. What a coincidence, there was no one in the intense care unit on that day except him. Everyone kept chanting for him until he was moved away. His whole body became very cold except for the hot top of his head. That is extraordinary. However, you should be aware that we shouldn't touch him. Master Yinguang advised us not to touch the body. After the chanting, we felt his temperature a few centimeters apart from his forehead, just testing. What the sutra says is right. We just casually looked around. What if his consciousness hadn't left the body, it would be terrible.
