Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

My master, Xing Gong, has a lay disciple, who was an officer in Taipei. This disciple's parents died in his childhood and was raised by his grandmother. His grandmother pampered him very much. After he grew up and started making money, his grandmother got cancer. He felt very sad. Just when he was able to repay his kindness, his grandmother became seriously ill. One day, he went to a temple and worshiped the Buddha in the main hall, with tears streaming down his face. Later, a monk came out and asked: What happened? Why are you so sad? He said, My grandmother and I depended on each other for survival.

Later, my grandmother got cancer. I am very sad, but there is nothing I can do. The master said, If you go back and
recite the Diamond Sutra (Vajra Sutra), you can save her. Then this layman invited a book of Diamond Sutra and went back. He didn't know its meaning but kept reciting. Nonetheless, an crucial concept in the Diamond Sutra inspired him. That is, Wherever there is the Diamond Sutra, there is Buddha. This phrase has a great influence on him because he believes that Diamond Sutra is Buddha. Wherever there is this Sutra, there is Buddha. He never had a Buddhist hall, so he wiped the table clean at home, put the sutra on it, and started reciting. Later one day, when reciting, a Buddha statue showed up right on the table. It was like Shakyamuni Buddha shining golden light.

He kept reciting, and the light kept shining for a few seconds. Until he finished reciting the sutra, the shining Buddha vanished. After seeing this phenomenon, two things happened to him. He told me. The first thing, his grandmother's cancer disappeared naturally. No cancer cells after diagnosis. After that, his grandmother lived another 12 years. The 2nd thing. After seeing the Buddha statue, his official career was prosperous. Finally, he served as the head of the military judge, and retired as a major general. Then, what does it mean here? This is a real story. This layman came to see Xing Gong before, and he mentioned this story to me. In fact, he doesn't know much about dharma but have deep faith in Buddha.

He has excellent mentality and deep roots of kindness. What's that? You are kind and generous, and have deep faith in the right methods, not suspicious. This is good roots of kindness. He deeply believes that Diamond sutra is the Buddha. This is the way he is. He considers the Diamond sutra as Buddha, who definitely can save me. With this conviction, he entered into the literal form of the Diamond Sutra. As a result, with this mentality, when he contacted the literal form of the Diamond Sutra, pat, there was a inspiring response, Sakyamuni Buddha was manifested. What? Based on what? This is based on the fact that all Buddhas are Dharmakaya (dharma body). It can enter the mind of all sentient beings. Visualizing sutra says cultivating your mind via forms. It's crucial to prepare your mindset.

Not to mention visualizing sutra, the same for chanting Buddha's name. The same Buddha's name enter different mind and will produce different. When you chant the Buddha, the same Buddha's name enter different minds, why do they create different merits? Because he has prepared and has good mentality. With good mentality, even when Master Lotus Pond chanted silently, he made a halo appearing over the head of Amitabha, with a Buddha statue inside. Because he has prepared and has good mentality. For this reason, when you practice visualization, the point is not how clear and specific it is. When visualizing, you have mindset and mind form. I want to stress a concept, mindset is more important than mind form.
