Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

There was an elder, who was not healthy. But he desire for longevity. He heard releasing turtle can prolong life. Because turtles have a long life. It's simple, to apply a reactive force. Today if you want to be macho man like a bull, release bull, and you will be very strong.
It's simple, create a reactive force. This is not a joke but a fact. You create something that you wish to get. That is called leakage dharma, but it's having deep faith in causality. This old was often sick, so he often bought turtles and released them.

When in his 80s, one day his child went to work, he thought he would lie in bed more often in the future. He preferred to move to a room downstairs, which was more convenient for him. However, he found one of the bed legs was too short to keep the bed stable. When he couldn't sleep at night, he went out in the dark and felt a brick, put it under the leg of his bed as a pad so he could fall asleep.
He didn't know it was actually a turtle, not a brick, and used it as the pad for his bed. In the end, he lived to be 95 years old. After his death, his son held a funeral for him. He thought the bed his father had used was too old and wanted to tear it down. When he took it apart, he found something at the bottom. He took it out.

Surprisingly enough, it was a turtle and it's still alive. That turtle had been padded there for 14 years. Is the turtle kind? It is so kind that it knew to return the favor. After that, his son raised the turtle. Seeing this turtle, he was like seeing his father. So if you treat all sentient beings kindly, they will also treat you kindly. This is behavioral reaction force. Some ask me: Master, I'm afraid of mice. Then if you release mice more, you won't be afraid of mice.
It's easy. Master, I'm afraid of ghost. Then you often chant the Buddha and transfer the merit to ghosts, and often recite the Ksitigarbha Sutra. You will find that not only are you not afraid of ghosts, they also become your guardians. This is called ghosts admire virtuous people. I'm here to give you an advice: how you treat the world is how the world will treat you. If you feel your world is miserable, it is due to the attitude you treat people and beings.
