[22] What three lights in the Buddha’s heart should we learn from?
In this class, we are going to explain the title, and let’s start with “Buddha”. Buddha's life is majestic and full of virtues, while our lives are full of suffering. Of course, there are reasons for this, because the Buddha’s inner world has a ray of brighter light of wisdom than ours. We lack the light of wisdom. Although we have a motivation to escape from suffering and obtain happiness, in the midst of happiness we fall into the vicious cycle of birth and death in the reincarnation. When we enjoy happiness, we bring about afflictions, which activate the karma of killing, stealing, adultery, and lying of birth and death, and karma creates old age, sickness, and death.
1:00
In the midst of aging, sickness and death, we seek happiness, which brings more afflictions. This is the nightmare of the cycle of birth and death, and it is very difficult for us to wake up from it. Until one day the Buddha was born. Of course, the Buddha does not need to reincarnate. He came to the world with the volition. The difference between Buddha and us: There are three rays of light in his heart that we should learn from.
The first is the wisdom of emptiness view. When the Buddha encountered problems, he used the view of emptiness to adjust himself.
On seeing that the Five Skandhas are empty, he overcomes all ills and suffering. He observes that his physical and mental world is without self and without self-possession. The Buddha's life consisted only of the Bodhi volition. He has no self-consciousness,
2:00
never talking about his favorite, no such concept of self. He has no opposing mind.
The second is the wisdom of observation of falsehood. Before Buddha illuminated all beings, he illuminated himself. He understood the different roots of sentient beings, knowing the thickness of each sentient being's afflictions and the depth of their good roots. He knows how to teach and enlighten each one. This is extraordinary. The wisdom of observation of false is the most difficult because it is so profound and vast. It takes three great eons to become a Buddha. It only takes one great eon to cultivate the view of emptiness but takes two great eons to develop the view of falsehood. Only by learning countless Dharma and understanding countless Samadhi can one become enlightened with all virtues. You need to spend 2/3 of your time learning the view of falsehood.
Of course, from the perspective of rebirth in the Pure Land, the wisdom of the view of falsehood is not urgent.
3:00
The first thing we need to do is seek rebirth. Therefore, at the level of ordinary people, the focus of our practice is to use the wisdom of emptiness to regulate our inner self. Life is short, you can't learn everything, because you don't have much time. You need to grasp the time to learn about mindfulness at the end of life, and this is the theme of our class: How to break delusion and reveal the truth, how to eliminate inversion. It is to take the view of emptiness as the foundation. When your wisdom of emptiness view and the wisdom of falsehood view reach a balance, you are entering the Madhyamaka ("middle way" or "centrism"). Therefore, our path to Buddhahood, from a long-term perspective, should include the three perspectives of emptiness, falsehood, and the middle way. However, as far as the focus of this life is concerned, you should emphasize on emptiness,
4:00
because the first priority is to end birth and death. This is what it means.
【23】What is the Dharma?
The wisdom of emptiness is our goal, so what are its process and methods? Let’s talk about methods. This method is a process that allows us to achieve wisdom, which is the Dharma door.
【24】What is the difference between the Buddha’s teachings and general teachings? Simply put, Buddhism is the truth of the universe and life, and it is the process and method for us to achieve enlightenment. Through this understanding, you put it into action, which is to practice, including the Three Refuges, Five Precepts, and the Six Paramitas and so on. Finally, you can achieve the fruit and merit.
What you first need to pay attention to is teaching methods, which is the most important. If you do not understand the teachings, you will not cherish them.
5:00
If you do not cherish them, your practice will be weak, idle, and aimless. Every religion has its teachings.
【25】If you give up the bubbles, you will get a bigger ocean
So, where did this teaching come from? It is explained more thoroughly in the Yogacara school. It says that the Buddha's teaching is called ‘the Equal Flow of Right Dharma of the Pure Realm’. It is the language and text that flowed from the Buddha's pure Mahaparinirvana heart through his expediency.
