In order to fight cancer, she went to the bookstore, looking for more information. There she met a lotus friend, who introduced Pure Land Buddhism to her and advised her to pursue rebirth in the West. Layman Zhang was extraordinary that he was only in his 30s but accepted the dharma immediately upon hearing it. Later, I wondered this young man had never heard of dharma, why did he accept it immediately on hearing it? Oh, it turned out he was a filial son, and he was obedient to his parents very much. Especially the issues between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, as a son and husband, he handled them very well. In front of his mother, he said that his wife praised behind for having such a good mother-in-law.

In front of his wife, he said that his mother praised behind for having such a good daughter-in-law. So, he deals the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law very well. For the Pure Land Buddhist, as the Three Blessings of the Pure Karma stated in the Visualization of Infinite Life Sutra, the first is to be filial to parents, serve teachers, and respect elders. Both the saints of mundane and transmundane have the same point. The mundane saint says, Filial piety is the top of a hundred virtues. Buddhism is rooted in filial piety. After Layman Zhang knew he got the incurable disease, he worked very hard on mindfulness of the Buddha. Afterwards, his mother came to see him one day,

and he was glad to see his mother coming. His mother sat on his bed to talk with him. As a result, Zhang said, Mom, please sit aside, you are sitting on my lotus. Excellent. He kept chanting Buddha's name to the extent that he felt like he had a lotus. As a result, when he was going to be reborn, he asked his wife to call lotus friends to help with chanting. Originally, he was not familiar with the lotus friends. What a coincidence, he actually chose the day when Teacher Li gave a lecture as his rebirth day. Just after the sermon, many lotus friend went to praise his merit by the way. While chanting the Buddha, Layman Zhang was filled with joy, holding the statue of Amitabha in his hands and chanting continuously.

A lotus friend said, “Look how happy he is? It seems like all the cancer symptoms on his body have disappeared.” Thus, he was reborn peacefully. When he heard the dharma, he admitted that he regretted not spending more time chanting the Buddha and learning dharma due to his busy business. It's too late, he said. If he had known Buddhism earlier, he would not go on drinking sprees to socialize for business. Today, he would not have fallen this far because of an incurable disease at the young age of 30-something. I comfort him, That's ok. It's said in the sutra, it is never too late to take action. Especially this Chanting Buddha dharma, you will get benefit as soon as you take action.

He accepted my advice. The mindfulness that Layman Zhang emitted at the time of his last breath was the most positive I have ever seen in the process of chanting assistance. It was extraordinary for a layman that he was holding the Buddha's picture himself and was reborn while chanting Amitabha phrase by phrase. It was inducted by his filial piety that he had such competency of chanting Buddha in a short period of illness. His merit was also guided by his good roots, and helped by his virtuous wife. Congratulations to Layman Zhang on his peaceful rebirth in the Bliss World. May he return soon of his own volition. It's also a vigilance for those secular people who excuse their slack of learning Buddhism by being too busy.
