May I ask Master. I was wondering what's your take on feeling?
A young intellectual wants to know what is the Buddhist concept of feeling? Every religion talks about love or talks about indiscriminate love. Otherwise, it talks about compassion. First, let's talk about the basis of human nature.
People have desires. Desires originate from selfishness and the emotion of possession. Why do people have desires? Because they want to prolong their lives. They want to make a living and have offspring. Then they generate desires in the real world. Buddhism calls it the walking dead who never cares about anyone other than himself, only thinks about himself.
Desires bewilder people. A little sublimation of desire is called love. I'm well, I hope my son and my mom are well. I hope my friends are well too. And then it was limited to a small scope.
So, the sublimation of desire is love, like the innate maternal love, a mother loves her children. However, there is still the concept of selfishness in this love. Why? I love my children, but not other children. God loves worldly people, but not Buddhists.

If you don't believe in God, he won't save you. That's for sure. God loves worldly people, but not Buddhists, you can rest assured. Since God is omnipotent, and he created us. He doesn't love us when we don't know him. There is a scope, and it's still selfish. So, the sublimation of love is indiscriminate love.
So, the indiscriminate love has a greater scope, just like the Founder of our nation said, philanthropy. However, the scope of indiscriminate love is limited to a country. We love our great Chinese nation, don't we? As we sing, I love China, I love China. We won't sing, I love America. But the indiscriminate love is still limited to one country.
A regional indiscriminate love. If there is so much indiscriminate love. Why are there so many wars in the world? Everyone is willing to defend their country. Indiscriminate love still has regional differentiation.
The sublimation of indiscriminate love is called compassion, which means to give happiness and release hardship. We give happiness to the living beings who are suffering.
Compassionately give alms to him, give him happiness and release his hardship, get rid of his pain. Nonetheless, we humans can only be compassionate once in a while. We don't have the same great compassion as the Buddha.

Great means absolute, which is unconditional and unified, that is to give unconditionally. Buddha does his best for all living beings, Great compassion. As for me, I'm unable to have great compassion. When I went to give lectures at Taiwan University. Taipei University of Technology said, "Master, please give us a lecture too.”
Many universities and colleges are now inviting me. There are also female employees of Sampo who would like to hear. Many. I often receive letters from the US, Canada, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and West Germany. As for me, I am limited in my ability to have great compassion.
Take Ching Hua university as example, they used to invite me to their campus to lecture on the Outline of Buddhism every week. That was several years ago. I could not have great compassion. I said: It takes me 3.5 hours to drive here, Lecture 1-2 hours, and take 3.5 hours to drive back. It's not worth it to drive 7 hours and only lecture for 2 hours. I'm not able to have great compassion. It will be very tiring and exhausting, and I have to rush back, right?

Frankly, it's impossible for a mortal to attain the mental state of the Buddha. That is unconditional. Now I have a good habit, that is, I do not receive an hourly fee when I lecture at any university. That's a little bit merit. I never take hourly fee. But, if he is like, Master, it is ok to take it. I push forth, and he pushes back. If he pushes too long, I feel bored, and I accept it. I then take it. It would be ungracious not to accept.
Of course, my view of feeling from a practitioner's perspective is Well, let's talk about the feelings between young men and women. Young people mainly want to discuss this. You asked me: Master, what is feeling? Monks also talk about love and feeling. But the rational mind is master of his love and feelings. We always hope that sentient beings will be free from suffering and achieve happiness.
We love them and imbue the Dharma to them. Tell them what birth and death are, and how to practice. We won't be like the worldly people. When in love, they hover between life and death. Maybe I will be like that. I won't, don't worry. I still need to live, don't I? Sentient beings have no clues about feelings from the beginningless eon. Although, in his heart, he knew very well, their status were not compatible at all.
