Master Hui Lu - Eating Veggie Food is Good but Don't be Attached 吃素很好但是不要吃得太執著

The 6th patriarch of Chan Sect, Hui Nan, went to Canton Province later. Many rascals were looking for him everywhere. Then he took refuge in a hunting party in Sihui County. Because Master Hong Ren (the 5th patriarch) told him to hide in Sihui.
And it has been a total of 15 years. Sometimes he spoke to hunters about dharma when it was expedient. The hunters often ordered him to watch the nets, that they used to catch creatures. Each time he did his best to release those animals that he thought were alive or viable. When it was dining time, he cooked vegetables along with meat. Because he was unable to eat pure veggie food. How could people eat veggie food in a hunting party? He took the wild veggies to cook with meat in the pot. Because he had no other ways to cook vegetables.

so this is the patriarch's outstanding performance. The patriarch strived to cultivate his mind, which is not the way ordinary people practice. Oh, that kind of attachment...
Once, a layman came to our lecture hall, taking a pack of cookies. When buying it, he might not pay attention, or somehow. He came here and happened to encounter me. Master, I am going to worship the Buddha, he said. But, master, see the egg cookies I bought. That is, the cookies are mixed with little egg. Thus, he said, Ah, you see, it has eggs. What to do? I was so careless. He said, master, I leave the cookies here for now. Alas! I don't eat eggs. Look, I'm not saying right or wrong. How to handle the cookies mixed with eggs? Only a bit. The 6th patriarch, you see, cooks veggies and meat mixed together in a pot, practicing his mind, but the ordinary practice hard in other ways.
Then he said, Master, I'm going to the grand hall to worship the Buddha. Later, I will come to take this pack of cookies.
Sure, you hurry to worship the Buddha, I said. Then you may eat very soon.
Why? He was confused. After worshiping 3 times, he came. When he returned, he found it was ready to eat.
Why? Because I covered the egg with a sticker. You read it, I said.
Eg... no, cookies, he said.
Yeah, I said, now it's only cookie left, without egg. Is it?

Practice, I tell you, the cookies mixed with a little egg. Would you soak it in water to separate the egg and the cookie? Do you bother to practice in this way? You shouldn't be like this, and it doesn't work.
So, he came from the hall. I said, Now you can eat, look, what does it call? Oh, it is called cookie. Because I covered the egg with a sticker. You shouldn't focus on practicing here. You need to learn from the 6th patriarch, Master Hui Nan. Cook veggies in the meat pot.
Some are so attached that. Did you use this pot to cook meat? Yeah, he replies. You go to buy a new one for me. Sometimes, we go to lay people's home. If you suddenly say: Did you cook fish or meat with this pot? If this laity is not a vegetarian, of course he did. Every time you go to others home, and they have to buy a new set for you. That's too much.
Therefore, when going out, we have to piggyback our pots. Otherwise, how do you eat veggie food to get purified? Practice hard and eat veggies. The reason we eat veggies is to get purified. Don't get it wrong. Does eating veggies indicate enlightenment?
Or, the Consistent Daoists eat veggies more purely. Do they have correct knowledge or vision?
