Trong số ấy, có những người trì giới niệm Phật già giặn, chắc thật, dù Tín Nguyện chưa đến mức cùng cực, tướng lành chẳng hiện, nhưng đều an nhiên mạng chung. Vì sao như vậy? Là vì tâm thuỷ trong lặng, do phân biệt nên xao động, đục ngầu, sóng thức trào dâng. Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

Let's see now. Many people are chanting Buddha. But few people are reborn in the Pure Land. I used to live in Taichung for 10 years. close to Teacher Lee - venerable Layman Bin-Nan Lee. At the time of my departure, the Taichung Lotus Society
had 500,000 members. There is a lotus membership list, not fake. There are really half a million people.
Teacher Lee had been preaching in Taichung for 20 years. There were so many people learning from him. Teacher often said with emotion. He didn't talk about others, only mentioned our members. About 5 out of 10,000 people are truly reborn. Then 9,995 out of 10,000 people are not reborn.
Teacher said with emotion, Why? Coveting this world, can't let go. Can't let go of family love; Can't let go of children and grandchildren; Can't let go of wealth;

Can't let go of social status, and so forth. So there are a lot of people who are chanting. That's called chanting in scattered minds. There are many delusions when chanting Buddha. Even if he doesn't suspect. He has a lot of random thoughts that get mixed up. So these are not pure thoughts.
Mahasthamaprapta request us to control all 6 roots and continuously have pure thoughts. Controlling 6 roots is to let go of all causal conditions.
Eyes let go of all forms. Don't cling to these things in minds. Don't differentiate these things; Ears correspond to sound; Nose corresponds to aroma; Tongue corresponds to taste; Body corresponds to touch; Mind corresponds to dharma(or matters). You should give Dharma, let alone non-Dharma. Then you will have a pure heart. No suspect, no mix up, this is a pure heart.
Chant buddha with this heart. One thought corresponds to one chanting. Every thought corresponds to every chanting.
The biggest trouble we have today: Delusions arise while chanting the buddha. Some people even have distracting thoughts during each chanting.

After chanting a whole day, there is not a clear mind at all. There are distracting thoughts in each chanting. You cannot go in this way. This does not meet the criteria for going to Sukhavati. If you want to have continuous purity of mind, you must control the six roots, you must control all six roots.
If you cannot control six roots, your chanting will only have a dharma affinity with Sukhavati as a karmic cause for the afterlife, and you won't have accomplishment in this life.
If you want to be successful in this life, you must truly let it go. Living in this world, you'd better go with the flow. Everything is fine, don't bother anything. Why? Nothing to do with me. Why do I bother? I make up my mind to go to Sukhavati and let go of all this world. Then my efforts paid off and attain the purity in my mind.
You have to know. If the mind is pure, the world you reside is also a pure land. This is an absolute theory of rebirth. We use this phrase of Buddha name to get rid of delusions and distracting thoughts and control the heart at one place. We keep the heart at one place. This place is Namo Amitabha or Amitabha is ok, that is to stay at the buddha name.

There's nothing in you mind except Buddha name. I am joyful every day, I am happy every day. I am grateful to prosperity, I am also grateful to adversity. I am grateful to good people, I am also grateful to bad people.
Why? I said that a lot. All those are eliminating karmic hindrance and increasing good fortune and wisdom. You must know this reason.
No crave for prosperity or good causal circumstances. Know that every form is delusional. No resentment in adversity or disadvantageous causal conditions. Knowing this is to eliminate my karmic hindrance and increase my good fortune and wisdom. I even transfer the merit of the practice to them.
At the end of life, if they don't chant buddha to seek the rebirth of the Pure Land, will surely fall into evil realms. If you transfer the merit to him. He will have less suffering in the bad realms. This is our response. Always keep your mind clean, equal and awake. This is to truly practice the Pure Land.
