Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

Layperson Liu asked a question. Because of my working circumstance, vegetarian food is not available. I want to ask, do I violate precepts if eating vegetables that touch meat every day? Or should I eat bread instead? May venerable Master expound with compassion?
Did you take precepts? It's unnecessary to talk if you didn't take precepts. If you took precepts, may I ask you which precept says to abstaining from eating meat? Is there a precept that abstain from eating meat? There is only a precept not to kill. There isn't a precept not to eat meat. So, you can rest assured. Don't bear this thing in mind.

It's good to eat vegetables that touched meat. In the past, Master Hui Neng lived with hunters. He had been eating vegetables that touched meat for 15 years. He is the patriarch of Chan Sect with great virtues.
Indeed, vegetarian diet is really helpful to health. Especially, modern meat contains too much bacteria. The ancients often said, “Illnesses go into mouth, calamity go out of mouth.”
It's the healthiest to live on a vegetarian diet. But the modern vegetarianism has a lot of trouble. There is pesticide in those vegetables.

Even rice is mixed with chemicals. That rice looks pretty. Frankly, those are poisonous. In the past, the venerable layman Li, Bingnan(the teacher of Master Chin Kung) often sighed: “Are we eating food now? We take poison for 3 meals a day.” These words make sense. We are taking poison for 3 meals. Even though we take poison every day, it strengthens our resistance. Really, our resistance has increased. If someone lives the life like the past, without pesticides or chemical fertilizer. Eat such vegetables for two years, then comes to the city. I think he can't stand it within a month. He will get poisoned.

So, don't bear these things in mind, just go with the flow for everything. But you must pay attention to hygiene.
Back then, the Buddha lived on asking for alms. One must go with the circumstance if living on alms. Eat whatever the benefactors offer. Definitely have no discrimination or attachment. So, the Buddha spoke the 3 Pure Meat.
1. You eat meat but didn't see killing. 2. You didn't hear the sound of killing. 3. It's not killed for me.
You are permitted to eat meat in such conditions. All are for cultivating your compassion. Only Chinese Buddhists in the World eat vegetarian food.

No other Buddhists in the world eat vegetarian food. Only Chinese Buddhists have vegetarian food. Why did Chinese Buddhists become vegetarians? It was Emperor Liang Wu (464-549 AD), who advocated vegetarian diet. He was a dharma guardian of our Buddhism. When he studied Lankavatara Sutra, it is written in the sutra, compassionate Bodhisattvas can't bear eating meat. After reading this word, he was touched and began to have a vegetarian diet. After he became a vegetarian, monks were the first to echo. Later, many laypeople also adopt vegetarian diets. Chinese are the first to advocate vegetarian diets. That is a good practice.

Indeed, vegetarian food is really healthy for those above middle age. It's worth to promote. However, if it's inconvenient for you while working, you may eat vegetables that touch meat. You don't need to bear this in mind.
