【61】What are the four stages of the Buddha's teachings?
The last section explains the four stages of the preaching the dharma. The first is joy. When the Buddha talked dharma, he first used meritorious forms to access us and make us delighted. If you read the Amitabha Sutra, you will find that this is a very clear meaning. You see, when the Buddha began to preach the Amitabha Sutra, he first praised the magnificent dependent reward and positive reward in the Bliss World.
There are three themes in the dependent reward, which is environment: precious trees, pavilions, and lotus flowers. Various treasures, lights, music, etc; the subtle and wonderful feeling of five dusts. The positive reward is the solemnity of the Buddha and Bodhisattva. When the Buddha talked about cause and effect, he first talked about the effects.

You see, the Four Noble Truth - Suffering, Origin, Cessation, and Path. The Buddha first explains the fruit of suffering, and then tells you how the origin of these fruits. First, I will talk about the merits of Nirvana, and then tell you how to achieve the merits of Nirvana and explain the principles. So the Buddha is guiding us in the same way. He would first tell you that there is a wonderful world, and ask if you want to go there. If you want to go, what method should you use? Recite the name persistently and single-mindedly. So, before the Buddha preached the Dharma, he first talked about the merits of the next life to make us delighted, using various methods to dispel the inner afflictions; regenerate goodness, generate wisdom, "manifest the truth, and immeasurable merit."
Use various dharma to dispel the afflictions in your heart, cultivate goodness, generate wisdom, and finally get enlightened. After you have achieved enlightenment, we will no longer regress. The Buddha will give you the prediction of becoming a Buddha,
2:00
saying that when and where you will attain buddhahood, and what your country's name is, and so on.
[62] After the Buddha’s passing, we can only learn his teachings from the text
The entire section on turning the Dharma wheel explains three themes: the content of the Dharma talk, the merits of the Dharma talk, and the order of the Dharma talk. When the Buddha was liberating living beings, he knew that a person could only change through transformation in his thoughts, so the Dharma was taught through words and sounds. However, this point deserves our attention. When we look at the history of Buddhism, we need to consider the Dharma-turning process in two parts:
First, when the Buddha was alive, he was proactive in spreading the Dharma, he was active even without being invited.
3:00
So when we see the Buddha spreading the Dharma, it is the Buddha's incarnation that was still there. Secondly, after the Buddha's nirvana, one relies on the scriptures, this is no longer active. It transforms activeness into passiveness, and you must actively learn.
Let us talk about the cause and condition of the Buddha's initiative to liberate people during his lifetime. There was a wealthy old man who had a child. The child looked very ugly. The scriptures say that he did not look like a human being at all, but like a pig. The wealthy elder had no choice but to raise him until he was a little older and then throw him into the forest to fend for himself.
4:00
The merits and blessings of this child are inconceivable. We all know that blessings are comprehensive. Although he committed the fault of defaming the Three Jewels in his past life, and is therefore ugly in this life. However, he had good karma, so even if he was thrown into the forest, he would not die. He survived by eating fruits from the forest. However, because this person was ugly, he had a sense of inferiority and was timid of people, so he ran away. However, he had good roots.
One day, the Buddha knew that the good roots of the ugly man had matured, so he transformed himself into a very ugly man who looked exactly like the ugly man, but a little taller, and came to the ugly man. This ugly guy took a look and thought, "Oh, this guy looks just like me!" He rejoiced to make friends with him. The two lived together, picked fruits together, and did activities together.
One day, the big ugly one said to the little ugly one: "I want to take you to a place today, okay?" He said: "Okay!"
5:00
Because this little ugly guy had become good friends with him. The big ugly one walked with the little ugly one to the river, and the two of them sat down by the river. The river reflected the faces of two people: a big ugly one and a little ugly one. The big ugly one took out some food and shared it with the other.
