We saw many people, who chant Buddha, are reborn. Those elderly men and women. How long they need to chant? 3 years. It's not a long time, either in standing or sitting position, and know the time in advance, and go gracefully.
40 years ago, when I was giving lectures at the East Buddhist College on the Buddha Light Mt.. At that time, there was a worker in the mountain, who lived in the countryside. He told me that he lived in a township, which is not far away from Buddha Light Mt., about 15 kilometers away.
He said, one year ago, back then, he had a neighbor, an elderly woman. She was very nice. She can't distinguish between worshiping gods and worshiping Buddha, and she worshiped diligently.
3 years ago, her son married a wife. Her daughter-in-law has studied Buddhism and knew a little about dharma, advising her not to worship everywhere.

They enshrined the Three Sages of the West at home. She encouraged the elder to chant Buddha at home, be mindful of Amitabha and seek rebirth in the Pure Land. This elder has deep roots of kindness. On hearing the advice, she no longer went to temples. She was mindful of Amitabha at home for 3 years.
On the day of her rebirth, at dinner, she told her son and daughter-in-law. You eat first and don't wait for me. But her son and daughter-in-law are very filial, still wait for her. After waiting for a long time and she didn't come out, they went to her.
Seeing that she actually had taken a bath and changed her clothes, they called her but no response, saw her standing at the Buddhist hall, standing, wearing a robe, holding rosary beads in her hand, they called her but she didn't reply, looked carefully, she had been reborn.
Look how elegant she was. Foreknow the time. She didn't tell her family so they wouldn't disturb her emotionally. You saw she had taken a shower, changed new clothes, and was already prepared, so she just left like that.
That worker told me it was true, he saw it with his own eyes. She chanted the Buddha truthfully, just 3 years.

We heard and saw at least a dozen of them, which is not fake at all. That is, when the good heart is in a state of immobility, he succeeds. If you can’t settle, think about the Six Paramitas of Bodhisattva. Why can't you settle? I can't let go. Giving is tell you to let go.
Letting go is giving up. What is the most important thing to give up? It's not about giving up money, these are trivial matters. Give up delusion, obsession, worry, vexation. Give up these stuff. Only by giving up this thing can your pure mind appear. Keeping the precepts with a pure mind
will give rise to merit, not only good fortune.
So we need to learn the Di Zi Gui (Disciples' Regulations) well. What should we use to learn it? With pure mind. Learn the The Treatise on Response and Retribution well. It talks that good causes lead to good consequences, and evil causes lead to bad consequences.
A total of 195 points have been mentioned. You must memorize them by heart and reflect on yourself once a day. Have I done these good things? Did I change it if I was not good?

Make an effort to correct your misbehavior. This is called true repentance. Through repentance, karmic hindrance can be eliminated. Then compare it with the Ten Good Deeds. How many of the ten good deeds can we achieve? If You've done every one of them and not lacked any, you are awakened.
If you complete the ten good deeds perfectly, you attain Buddhahood.
When we look at Buddha paintings, especially painted ones. Buddha paintings are usually painted with a round light, and there are three characters on the top of the halo, called "Om Ah Hum". That is the ten good karma paths. So someone asks you, what is Buddha dharma?
What is dharma? Do no evil, practice good deeds, and purify your mind. This is the Buddha's teaching.
Not just one Buddha, all Buddhas use this to reform sentient beings and achieve themselves. You see, Do no evil and practice good deeds means that the 10 good deeds have been done perfectly. Purifying your mind is reach samadhi. This is what it means.
So if you want to learn Buddhism, Where to start is so important. Otherwise, all the efforts in this life will be in vain. What a pity.
