If it doesn't work, it's because you haven't practised enough and your habitual tendency is too strong, need more practice to counteract our habitual thinking.
For people who are prone to anger, the Buddha also told us to cultivate more compassion, to see the Buddha nature in all beings (and not be attached to sentient beings' ignorance) ????
