The Calamity of Teacher's Hunchback 教師駝背的劫難

The Tripitaka has 101 books in total. How can I find it? Thanks for Heaven's compassion. Or, I would not stand here and preach the truth today. It's about 7 years ago, I got hunchback and grew bone spurs. The doctor from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital said that I needed surgery, and I would not be cured without surgery.
Will I be able to recover if I have surgery? I asked.
“How can it be foolproof?” Said the doctor, “Almost yes, seven out of 10 people will recover.” If not good, I'm done.

How is it done? There was a singer, who did the spine surgery. After the surgery, she needed to sit in a wheelchair and couldn't walk. I will not have surgery as I am not sure of a cure. He said, You won't recover if not having surgery. Then I insisted not to have surgery.
How troublesome is surgery? I have a friend who has surgery. He can't leave the hospital immediately after surgery, and must put on an iron vest. The iron vest appears to be made of stainless steel and supports the entire body. He was unable to move his body.
Thus, it's terrible. I can't preach. But I insist on going out to preach. How pitiful was I writing at that time? I had to write like this, bending and writing. These brothers said, “Teacher work too hard. you don't need to write, let the students do it for you.”

They volunteered to write for me. “Sure, you help me with writing,” I said. People wrote for me in the south region. People also wrote for me in Yilan. Writing and writing, I gradually recovered. After I'm well, it is embarrassing to write again. They are used to help me already. I've become lazy after not writing for a long time.
Back then, I told you all, “If I keep hunchback, I was like this before, then I hunchback to 90 degrees. If I can't walk, you may carry me with a board,” this is what I said, I insist on lecturing anyway.
Later, someone asked me, “Teacher, why are you cured?”
I have no idea how I healed. People ask me what medicine I took. I don't know how to say. If people kindly offered me herbs, I took them.

If people offered me medicine, I took them. If people offered me Chinese medicine, I took them too. Some people came back from traveling to the mainland and said this was good for you, I ate that too. I've eaten a dozen of drugs in my belly. I am not sure which one works. Just eat randomly. Then my spine gradually straightened. Probably my karma has been eradicated. Honestly, I have no idea how it recovered.
Back then, when I was a hunchback, I could not roll over in bed. Why not roll over? Because my body was bend and could not lie straightly. I have to sleep on my side. When I sleep in pain on this side, now what? I couldn't roll over. My wife flipped me over to the other side with her hands. Otherwise, I couldn't do it by myself.
When I was a hunchback and couldn't move, I complained and sighed. If say someone never complain, it's fake. I complained a lot. In front of Patriarch. What do I believe in?

I believe in Patriarch Lu, Chunyang (呂純陽, 796-). I said, “If I should die, let me die quickly. If I shouldn't die, don't let me suffer such grave karma. Just like that, I can't sleep all night, and my spine feels like needles pricking me.” Because it grows bone spurs, if I straighten the spine slightly, I will get pricked, and it's painful. Back then, how did Patriarch give me instruction?
“Stop complain. Back then, Sakyamuni was like this.”
He said that Sakyamuni Buddha was like this. But I was suspicious. How was that possible? How could Sakyamuni Buddha was like this?
He said, “Or, How about you go read the Tripitaka?

Well, I really went to book store to look for this sutra. I found it and wanted to buy one. But he refused to sell it to me. “There are 101 books totally. How can you only pull out one book? You need to buy one set.” Oh my, it costs 130 thousands NT$ for one set. I ain't rich. “Frankly, I can't afford it,” I said. “That's too much for one set. I only need a portion. Please, just sell one book to me. It doesn't matter how much, you sell me.”
He said, “How about this way, you need to pay double the price for a single book.” He asked for double the price.

I had to buy it even with double price. Otherwise, I had no choice. I said, “Well, sell it to me for double the price.” One hundred books sell for 130,000. It costs 1300 for one book.
