Teacher Rui-Lie Lee - Chant Buddha and Avoid being Slaughtered 念佛免遭屠殺

Nowadays, for those who are chanting Buddha, they claim that if you chant the Buddha, you can go to the West. You guess, can you go to the West if you chant the Buddha? It's not that everybody can reach there. Part of them can. It's not that as long as chanting a phrase of the Buddha's name, you can go to the West. It's not as easy as that.
Nonetheless, why do those masters say that chanting a phrase of Buddha has immeasurable merit? If they don't say immeasurable merit, you won't chant. In addition, chanting Buddha's name has benefits and no harm. One more phrase of chanting has one more benefit. I will cite a real case from a book of reincarnation in new era,

which has a detailed description.
Someone raised a sow, and it gave birth to several piglets. As a result, one piglet of them has five claws, which are the same as humans. The owner was astonished and especially took care of that piglet, saying that he would raised it until it died.
Later he asked a master for advice. The master told him that this pig didn't behave well in its previous life. However, before it died, it raised this hand and chanted a phrase of Amitabha.

Because of this Buddhist affinity, he was reincarnated as a pig in this life and did not have to be slaughtered and eaten by people. According to this story, which is a real one. You see, chanting a phrase of Buddha prevented it from being slaughtered. This is not bad. Therefore, chanting Buddha’s name is not a bad thing. At least it can prevent us from creating the three karma in the present moment.
Three karma is mouth karma, body karma, mind karma. When one is chanting Buddha, he won't casually scold people and won't create mouth karma.

When one is chanting Buddha, he won't go to indecent places and won't create body karma. When one is chanting Buddha, he won't have vicious thoughts and won't create mind karma.
If you didn't create these 3 kinds of karma, you will be reborn in the 3 good paths at least in the afterlife, and won't fall into the 3 bad paths. That's good. Nonetheless, it's not so easy to go to the West, and that needs conditions. It is not like what some people say, that you can go to the West by just chanting the Buddha's name. Even though you chant Buddha the entire life, you probably can't go to the West. I'm not lying. Because everybody doesn't read the text in sutra, you don't know what the contents are.

The dharma door of chanting Buddha is called Pure Land Sect, and some say Chanting Buddha Sect. They attach the most importance to three sutra. Namely, The Sutra of Amitabha, The Sutra of Contemplation of the Buddha of Infinite Life, The Sutra of Infinite Life. These three sutras clearly explain how to go to the West.
