Trong số đó, lắm kẻ bình nhật tự vỗ ngực là bậc thông Tông, thông Giáo, coi Tịnh Ðộ như uế vật, chỉ sợ nó làm bẩn lây đến mình. Lúc lâm chung, đa số chân loạn tay cuống, kêu cha gào mẹ. Trong số ấy, có những người trì giới niệm Phật già giặn, chắc thật, dù Tín Nguyện chưa đến mức cùng cực, tướng lành chẳng hiện, nhưng đều an nhiên mạng chung. Vì sao như vậy? Là vì tâm thuỷ trong lặng, do phân biệt nên xao động, đục ngầu, sóng thức trào dâng. Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

In the past, there was a Master Tan Chan in Singapore. He set up a stall selling incense and candles in front of the temple. When believers come to worship the Buddha, they need some incense and candles, where goods are distributed. Thus, he accumulates some savings. He gave the money he earned to many places around the world every year. Very generous. There were millions US$ totally.
When giving money, he never asked how they would use it.

After the situation became clear and he had made up his mind, he handed the money to the person in charge and said only one sentence. “Now the money has gone from my hands to yours, it is yours, not mine. Each person is responsible for his own causality. My merit has been perfect. Next, don't ask me how you are going to do with the money. I don't want to know.
Triply pure generosity, giving, offering. 三輪體空

He is not attached to his ability to give; not attached to how much he give; not attached to how others use the money. His merit has been perfect with this idea. He is not vexed.

This is truly doing great merits and planting great blessings. It's not about how much he gives, but the perfect resolve he brings forth. It is said in the Vajra Sutra, “If a bodhisattva gives alms without attachment to form, his blessings and virtues are immeasurable.”
Many times, you may still feel uneasy and then start analyzing. What if I give them money and they misuse it? What if they use it for something shady? Have I been cheated? OK, you send someone to follow up and investigate. Objectively, nothing is perfect. If you seek perfection in things, it will be in vain.

The merits of dharma do not arise in things but in the heart. So, Master Huinang told us that blessing field is not away from the heart. Where do the good fortunes arise? It doesn't arise in things but arise in that thought. This thing is just a helping connection. You should know this point.
