Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

This afternoon, we will add content about fame and fortune. Nowadays, many people learn the way, learn the reasoning of emptiness, until everything becomes empty. If one sees through fame and fortune, and doesn't want fame and fortune at all, sometimes, it's unnecessary. Then he doesn't realize the meaning of seeing through fame and fortune. What does it mean we say seeing through fame? It is not that I relinquish everything of fame. If someone asks you: Would you come here to be our leader? No, I have see through the fame. In fact, you didn't see through the fame.

Because you still have a form of seeing through the fame in your mind but don't know what seeing through the fame really is. As Laozi said: A gentleman rides a sedan when time is right; if time is wrong, he walks with a heavy load. Later, Confucius said: If you are hired, you do it; if you are given up, you hide.
This is the real seeing through the fame and fortune. Supposed a group asks you to be the leader, or a temple asks you to be the abbot, if I'm competent, I can do it, but I will do it for serving the public. But if a lot of people are competing with me or trying to bring me down, well, I'll give it to you. What's this? This is seeing through the fame. In other words, when people need me, I will do it. When people don't need me, I won't compete with others.

This is the real seeing through the fame.
What is about seeing through the fortune? It's not telling you not to make money. It doesn't matter if you make tens of thousands or millions a day as long as you make legitimate money.
For example, if you are an official or teacher, whether you receive salary, allowances, and bonuses, or claim overtime pay and travel expenses, these are all your legal income. As an official or teacher, you shouldn't do whatever it takes to make unjust money, like obtain wealth by corrupt means. Thus, you didn't see through fortune. Take doing business as example,

as long as you earn with upright means, you can earn as much money as you like. On the contrary, if you are an evil businessman who gets rich by unrightful means, that is wrong.
For example, when I contract work, if my price is higher than others because I comply with regulations, that’s fine. But if your price is lower than others because you skimp on the job and stint on materials, that is wrong. This is that you don't see through fortune. To see through fame and fortune is to obtain them through the right way, not to seek them through the unrightful way.
