Master Hsing Yun - The Easy Path in Buddhism | 星云大师 - 佛法中的易行道
Disclaimer:
To prevent misunderstandings about the Pure Land Dharma Door, the “formless way” of reciting the Buddha’s name Master Hsing Yun mentioned is in accordance with the Chan school’s perspective on Pure Land. It is the hardest form of mindfulness of the Buddha and not easily practiced by the majority of us. As from the Chan’s school of cultivation (gate of emptiness), it is to cut off attachments to all sorts of forms, language and words, even the Buddha is not to be attached. Hence, there’s a saying in Chan school, “When the Buddha comes, kill him, when demons come, kill them too”. However from the Pure Land school (gate of existence), it has to establish the direction and the wondrous adornments of the Pure Land. Hence, there is a strong emphasis on faith in the existence of the Buddha and His Pure Land, strong aspiration to be reborn there and recitation of the Buddha’s name. The ultimate goal of the Chan and Pure Land school are the same, only the methods differ. At the end of video, Master Hsing Yun brings the point back to putting in effort on the Easy Path which is recitation of the Buddha’s name as he too understands that the “formless” way is not achievable for most of us.
