Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

Those Who are Generous but Grumpy will become Asuras
Subtitles:
Generosity can cultivate good fortune. Forbearance can maintain good fortune. Without forbearance, Buddha said it well: One thought of grudge, will open a hundred doors of the barrier. No matter how much giving you practice, once you lose temper, your merit will be gone. The merit is gone, but the good fortune is still there. If you have good fortune, you may enjoy that in the realms of human and celestial. Those who are grumpy and can't bear humiliation have cultivated great fortune. Where to enjoy it?
Go to asura realm to enjoy. Asura, the Shurangama Sutra makes it very clear. Except for the realm of hell, there are asuras in the other realms. There are celestial asuras, human asuras. There are animal asuras, and ghost asuras. Only in hell there are no asuras. Then it depends on your good fortune. With great fortune, you go to heaven as an asura. With medium good fortune, you are an asura in the human world. With less good fortune, you are asuras of ghost and animal realms. Though asuras are blessed with good fortune, they are neither kind nor righteous, and are very grumpy.

The greater their good fortune, the more beings they can harm. After death, they usually end up in hell as retribution, that is terrible. So forbearance is the most important, and you have to bear everything. To deal with things and get along with people, especially we Buddhists should have a big heart and do good deeds. But many people look for trouble. What do they say ? Say you are fake with intentions and purposes. You say you are not. They say: “I don't believe.” Make up facts out of thin air and add a crime on you.
Will you bear it? Yes, you should bear it. Not only do you have to endure but you also have to be grateful. Why ? He came to give you a test to see how well you could endure humiliation. You can upgrade yourself at this time. Whether you are in good times or bad, you have to endure. When you are in a good time and good conditions, The people you meet are all good and the environment is also good. What are you going to endure? Avoid greed or obsession. You shouldn't be obsessed.

In bad times and bad conditions, you must endure without resentment. All in all, no matter what state you are in, keep your heart sincere, pure, and equal. This is the ability of forbearance. Treat everyone with humility.
I attended the World Peace Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this time (2005). Malaysian believes in Islam and Islam is their state religion. I chose 4 sentences from the Hadith of Islam. I wrote them out for everyone.
The 1st sentence, in the day of your joy or resentment, You should speak fair words. It is because when people are joyful or angry, they tend to speak with bias, must keep their heads above water and speak fairly. You can't go along with your love and hate. You must uphold justice.

2nd, help people who have broken up with you, though the relation is broken off. But when he is in trouble, you may lend a helping hand.
3rd, he is not your good friend. He is ruthless and unjust, and is a villain. But when he is in trouble and helpless, you have to give him alms.
4th, do not blame the person who is unjust to you. Do not blame him, and forgive him.
The teaching of Islam. Are the 4 items in line with the perfection of forbearance? If you can't stand it, can you do it? You must have an excellent forbearance ability to do these 4 items. Really, forbearance improves your own state and enhance your spirituality. Therefore, forbearance is the key to the success of practice. So many people fail to achieve success in practice. Why? They can not bear. Prosperity breeds greed, adversity breeds hatred. Then they retreat and deprave. Too many cases. So it's a key.
