I think it's not just you has this problem, many people also have this problem. In fact, I often talk about it in my lecture. Termites are living creatures and also sentient beings. We have to treat them with kindness.

Saints from the mundane world and transmundane world have taught us that sincerity can induce communication. We can't communicate with these animals because we don't have enough sincerity. What's sincerity? The ancients said: "Not having a single thought is sincerity." If you have distracting thoughts, you are not sincere and unable to communicate. If you are pure and sincere, and can communicate, you can ask it to move. So you must stop evil and do good deeds in order to touch these small sentient beings.

We saw in the "Biography of Master Yin Guang" that the hut where Yin Guang lived also had mosquitoes and fleas in the early years. There's all this stuff interfering. His attendants helped him to clear it, and the elder monk said, "No need to clear it." The attendant said: Why? He said: I am not virtuous enough, and they are there to alert me. It's said that after the elder monk turned 70, there was not a single bug in the hut where he lived.

They all moved. Therefore, these small animals are respectful to those who are true practitioners, those who are virtuous and kindhearted, and will not disturb them. Hence, the cultivation of virtue is the best way to solve these troubles. We might as well give it a try and learn from the patriarchs and great masters. In Singapore and the United States, some fellow practitioners told me after a serious trial that it was very effective. Even if it cannot be completely cut off, it has been reduced a lot, and the reduction means that one has made progress in one's cultivation.
