China Pilgrimage ???????? Stop 5: Our Final Destinations in Shanxi: Xiaoxitian & Guangsheng Temple
Our journey in Shanxi concluded with two remarkable sites. Xiaoxitian (小西天“Little Western Pure Land”) offered a serene glimpse into Buddhist artistry, with exquisite sculptures and murals that recreate scenes of the Western Pure Land.
We then visited Guangsheng Temple (广胜寺), home to the world-famous Feihong Colored Glaze Pagoda (飞虹琉璃塔) — a 13-storey octagonal tower built in the Ming dynasty (562AD) , adorned with brilliantly colored glazed tiles in yellow, green, blue, purple, and white. Bathed in sunlight, the pagoda shimmers like a rainbow rising into the sky, living up to its name “Flying Rainbow (Feihong).” It holds the world record as the tallest coloured glaze pagoda (over 47m).
It was a fitting finale to our Shanxi leg — a blend of sacred art, timeless devotion, and breathtaking craftsmanship.
We look forward to our upcoming China Pilgrimage in December - https://haihuishan.au/pilgrimage
