Do Phật hiệu nên tâm thuỷ ngưng lặng. Bởi thế, kẻ thượng trí chẳng bằng kẻ hạ ngu, biến quá khéo thành vụng về lớn vậy!”

It's said that Devaputra Susthita heard he would suffer from karma, and he would be reincarnated as an animal for 7 successive lives. Lord Śakra took pity on him and head to the garden of Anāthapiṇḍada to pray to the Buddha for salvation. Then the Buddha proclaimed the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra to him. “Lord of Heaven, there is a Dhāraṇī known as the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī. It can purify all evil paths and eliminate all affliction in the world.” The Buddha told Lord Śakra, “If someone hears the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī, the karma he made in his previous lives will be eliminated completely.” Therefore, the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra is a convenient dharma to eliminate evil karma and mercifully liberate beings. Then, how did the sutra
spread to the Central Land? (in 676 AD)
I am Buddha-pāla, come from the country of Jibing. I seek the truth with all my heart, and only seek the teachings of the sages. However, after the Buddha's nirvana, it is difficult to find sages and bodhisattvas. Only the great Manjusri Bodhisattva is still leading sentient beings on Mount Wutai. In order to witness the holy face of the Bodhisattva and to hear the teachings of the Bodhisattva by myself, I am willing to travel thousands of miles to pay homage at the top of Mount Wutai. I've walked through dunes and blazing heat. I have walked through the night and bitter cold. Bodhisattva, where are you?

World-Honored One, disciple Buddha-pāla, bow down devoutly. Do I have the honor of meeting You, Venerable Manjusri Bodhisattva? Can you kindly explain this to me in person? I have traveled thousands of miles to the East. May you manifest and lead me out of sufferings?
You are really a good man who works tirelessly. Master, you have come a long way despite the hardships. I wonder if you have brought the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra?
Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra?
Right, sentient beings in the Central Land usually commit many sins. They are difficult to leave home or take precepts. It's hard to save them. Only the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra is so inconceivable that it can eliminate sinful karma. I wonder if you have brought this sutra.
I didn't bring it with me.
Ha... You don't have the sutra. Even if the Bodhisattva is standing in front of you now, you may not recognize him. You'd better go back to India and get the sutra. At that time, the Bodhisattva will naturally meet you in the Vajra Cave.
Amitabha Buddha. Buddha, I am leaving for India immediately, I vow to obtain the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra. Then I will ask to meet Manjusri Bodhisattva.

Elder Shunzen, thanks for your care. I am leaving to India today.
Master, the journey to the west is dangerous and unexpected.
Xuanzang traveled westward in the past, and experienced ups and downs along the way. He studied for more than 10 years and returned. You just came to the Central Land from the west, the journey was windy and dusty. You may not have recovered yet, why not take a break? Now you are moving on in a hurry.
I long for it and can't wait any longer. Although it is tough on the way to get the sutra, I am devoted to meeting Manjusri Bodhisattva in person?
Just for meeting Manjusri Bodhisattva in person? Since so, I have prepared baggage for you. You will have meals in the wind and camp outside on this journey. Take care.
Along the way, Buddha-pāla went through a lot of hardships. However, he made up his mind to meet the Bodhisattva. He overcame the difficulties each time by his strong will. It took a few years, Master Buddha-pāla finally arrived in India from Mount Wutai.

Buddha. Buddha, I've got the sutra. As long as I bring it back to the Vajra Cave on Mount Wutai, I can meet Manjusri Bodhisattva.
The purpose of obtaining the sutra is not to meet Bodhisattvas. Obtaining the sutra is to bring it to the Central Land to carry forward the Buddha's great compassion and great vow and to release sentient beings of the suffering of reincarnation, and to release sentient beings from the suffering of reincarnation. If you don't understand this, obtaining this sutra doesn't do you any good.
Benefactor, you are...
A few days ago, I suddenly got a strange disease, and my whole body was full of thick sores. The mayor said it is my karma and I have to bear the pain. Now I feel pain and itching all over my body, which is difficult to treat. I can only pray to Buddha for blessings. May Buddha bless me with good health and recovery.
Could it be an instruction from the Buddha? I will recite this Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra for you. You must first quiet your mind and worship with devotion.
