1623【世事無常,那不是只會發生在别人身上的事,你怎麼還在為輪迴而忙】/海濤法師
【The affairs of the world are impermanent. It’s not something only happening to others. How could you still get busy with reincarnation?】/Master Hai Tao
Only when you are able to realize how fragile and agonized life is, could you have compassion toward other sentient beings. Because "he doesn't know the truth," he is still busy building the house, falling in love with someone, leaving no stone unturned to get a doctoral degree, and finishing paying off the loans. You feel sympathy for him since he doesn't perceive the impermanence.
Therefore, one day, Shakyamuni went to a wealthy guy's place while the rich one was still constructing a big arch. Buddha went talk to him. With the supernatural power, Buddha knew the wealthy man would die after a few days. Buddha then said to him, "Come be a monk with me, Old Billionaire! After becoming a monk, you could be liberated, upgraded to heaven, or even reborn in Pure Land. Come be a monk with me. The ephemeral world is transient."
The wealthy old man said, "Buddha, I know, but haven't you seen me building the house? After building the house, my son will get married, and I hope that he will have a son after getting married. I am really busy."
Buddha could do nothing about it. Buddha couldn't tell him "You will die soon, so follow me and come be a monk now!" Buddha wouldn't say so.
The only thing Buddha would say to him is "It would be great if you could come with me and become a monk."
"I am sorry, Buddha. Please go back home."
Buddha sighed! After Buddha went back to the monastery,
the billionaire died of being hit by the falling arch built by himself.
Buddha said: "I've already told him everything is impermanent." "Now let's liberate him!" This is the truth.
In other words, It's very simple. When you hear Buddha Dharma, it means Buddha is here. and it is also a sign to tell us, repeating after me, "Existence is impermanence."
Remember, whenever you listen to Dharma teachings, it's your moment to recognize the truth of the world. Life is inconsistent and full of birth, senility, illness, death, love, hatred, departure, wealth, and poverty.
Monk Zhan-ri just showed me a picture of a layman. He used to be chubby and energized. It's just been three or four months since we last met him. He becomes bony because he gets bone cancer. He's in great pain now. Don't say, "Thank Buddha! It ain’t me!." Sooner or later, it will be your turn. Don't say "Fortunately, it ain’t me." On seeing the pain of other people, you've got to think "I am exactly the one suffering. What should I do?"
Therefore, Yamaraja, the God of Death, said, "I write to you every day. Haven't you read it yet?" In the world, there is so much serendipity created by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas trying to tell us "Impermanence! Impermanence!" "Let go quickly. Don't be attached to anything!" Otherwise, you will be in pain without the ability to help yourself.
Thus, accumulate merits and cultivate Buddhism as soon as possible. Repeat after me, "Always remain mindful of impermanence, and cautiously never indulge in laxity." What is so called "indulgence"? I go pursue the worldly wealth, happiness, fame, status, love, children, and grandchildren. This is called "indulgence."
"It's ok to have sore legs without suffering from cancer.”
"It's quite fine to have soreness in waist area."
"Having a stomachache is just a minor illness."
"As long as you still grab a breath, you want to pursue more."
This is so-called "reincarnation."
Thus, repeat after me, "Every request leads to bitterness."
