【27】What is “rational observation”? What is “practice of matter”?
We will talk about "practice" later. Let's talk about "study" first, because the order is that you must study before you can practice. The learning process of Buddhism consists of two parts: rational observation, and practice of matter. Rational observation is study. It's mainly to study: what is true and what is delusion? How to break the delusion and reveal the truth. This is called study. This study is certainly a kind of wisdom observation. Through wisdom observation, we can abide in the nature of emptiness, subdue affection and attachment, and finally convert to Bodhi. Once your Dharma door of mindfulness is mature, you will be qualified to practice the Six Paramitas from emptiness to falsehood. On the one hand, confess your sins, and on the other hand, accumulate merit.

In the process of experiencing things and training the mind, on the one hand, we eliminate our sins from beginningless time, and on the other hand, we accumulate vast merits and virtues. This is called "practice". Therefore, the sequence is to first observe the rationale and then practice the matters. First learn, do a good job of taming and guiding your mind, and then take action.
【28】Remember! When you encounter something, think about the principles of Buddhism before reacting
The dharma is profound and vast, and we hope to give a beginner an outline of them and find out its essence. We divide the entire Buddha's teachings into four themes: aspiration, right view, practice, and attainment. The two subjects of aspiration and right view are the basic skills, which do not involve any action. It means opening your eyes and having a goal first. Aspiration is to set a goal. The second right view is to make wise observations.

When you encounter something, the first thing you should do is not to react too quickly. Remember! Think about the principles of Buddhism before you react. If you want to make progress in studying Buddhism, you really need to react slowly, because your intuitions are all habits, your intuitions are all wrong, and most of them will make you regret. It is because we lack wisdom that we reincarnate through life and death.
So from the perspective of Buddhism, in the Bodhisattva precepts, you are not to blame for the mistake in the first thought. The Bodhisattva precepts do not blame you for the first intuitive affliction. But on second thought, you didn't observe your light, and this is your problem - you slack. You can't be blamed for intuitive mistakes. You have no control over that.
3:00
But if you don't cure it after the second thought, it means that you haven't done a good job of mindfulness of the Dharma. Therefore, Buddhism starts to cure from the second thought. We cannot control the first thought. The first thought must be your habit.
The two subjects of aspiration and right view are rational observations, which lay a solid foundation for you. Then practice means taking action. After laying a good foundation, it's your choice which dharma is suitable for you. Once the foundation is laid, you can build a thatched hut or a mansion, depending on your life plan and how much time is available. So this practice is optional, but "aspiration" and "right view" are common subjects, you have to study them well.
If you have learned these two subjects, from now on, you will know how to face life and your attitude will be different.
4:00
These two subjects are also the key to success or failure – aspiration section and right view section.
[29] Why is aspiration and right view the foundation of all practices?
Everyone! We need to know one thing, that is, in fact, we have experienced many lives and done many things in the past countless eons. Looking at our past, we have done many good deeds such as giving alms, keeping precepts, and forbearance, but why are we still in the cycle of life and death like this now?
Because we haven’t built the wisdom of rational observation, all our good deeds can neither transcend life and death nor attain paramita. Our mental quality is too poor! So don’t underestimate the mental construction of the first two subjects. The two subjects of aspiration and right view are the basic skills of all. Once these two basic skills are established,
5:00
if you cultivate the dharma door of the six perfections, and each of them will become a paramita. Once you have established this foundation, bringing up the Buddha's name is called right mindfulness at the time of death. The first two sections are the key points, the aspiration and right view, the power of observation and the volition. This rational observation is so important.
