【Cultivate Right at the Moment! Don't Get Reincarnated to Awful Places with Affliction and Self-Attachment.】/Master Hai Tao
A person cultivating compassion, according to the Sutra, is completely impervious to knife-chopping, water-flooding, and fire-burning. Believe it or not? If you believe, there will be no nightmares and no intrusion of deities and ghosts. (Excerpted from the story of #Maitreya Buddha)
However, if your desires and dualistic perception arise, the karmic creditors will come after you. Therefore, it occurs to me that “a wrong thought on the spur of the moment” makes a big difference. A thought matters!
The reason why I’ve explained so much is to tell everyone that no matter one recites Sutras, chants Buddhas’ names, or performs Buddhism rituals, the purpose of all these practices is to cultivate one's mind, to reinforce one's compassion all the way, and to help sentient beings without receding from compassion. One can't just stay at the same stage all the time.
However, it's not appropriate to help beings without chanting Buddhas’ names or performing Buddhism rituals because cultivation of both merits and wisdom are equally important.
Therefore, please dedicate one half of the efforts to helping beings, and the other half of those to studying Buddha’s essence as joining a sandwich course.
My master once said to me: “When you run an institute of Buddhist studies, the students should receive no more than two hours of instruction each day.” The lecture has exceeded two hours because it's such a golden opportunity today. He said that after listening to Buddha Dharma for two hours, one should put Buddha Dharma into practice.
Faced with a vast variety of things through dealing with affairs and all kinds of complicated situations, one could practice Buddhism in daily life with a review and reflection coming at night afterwards to see how progressive one's compassion is.
Therefore, we should “let go thoroughly before we pass away.” Before we leave our bodies, we've got to truly find out the eternal life, which is emptiness and compassion, especially compassion. Never do we leave the world accompanied with affliction and self attachment. We will be reincarnated to awful places if we don't let go the pain.
Thus, death is inevitable. It's scarcely attainable to become a human. When to pass away remains unknown. The reincarnation is such a suffering. Master Gampopa once mentioned the Dharma above. Therefore, we should seize the moment and make good use of every minute to practice compassion.
Compassion has no enemy. If you have been owed or hurt, let it go, because compassion should be extended to all.
