(English subtitles) Ji Xiaolan (紀曉嵐1724-1805) was an influential philosopher, politician, and writer in the Qing Dynasty of China.

Mrs. Shen, my maid's mother, said there was a beggar in Gaochuan County. He lived with his mother and wife in a dilapidated temple.
The beggar gathered over a bushel of wheat and instructed his wife to grind it into flour, bake it, and offer to his old mother.
The beggar's wife actually hid the good flour, mixed the inferior flour with dirty water, which contained more bran,

One night, it rained heavily. Suddenly in the darkness, the beggar's wife screamed. The beggar got up and saw that a huge snake had crawled into her stomach from her mouth and was biting her organs. She was already dead.
