(English subtitles) Master Hui Lu (慧律法師) talk dharma. 別瞧不起福報沒福報的人修行處處受阻
Subtitles:
Secular people, look, on the Lunar New Year, go to ZiNan Temple to pray for wealth. There are so many people, and the traffic jam block for miles. You think that people seek such a little wealth. Then it is remarkable to seek rebirth in the World of Bliss(Sukhavati), which is a thought that makes you a saint. Without great blessings, virtue, or causal condition, you won't encounter it.
So, you know those who have great blessings are healthy, wealthy, and looks solemn with 6 perfect roots. Those who have insufficient blessings, after birth, are poor, disabled, deaf, dumb, and retarded, and lose money no matter what business they do.
Every one of their friends is evil. All are the friends drinking and eating meat together. These are the difference between people who cultivate blessings and others not cultivate blessings.
So, you shouldn't say, I only chant Buddha. Blessings( good fortune) are very important. Why is it important? You have blessings to support you. You won't have hindrance to practice.
For example, you don't have blessings this life, and you are born in Africa African are all Christian and Catholics. I am not saying people there are not good but saying you are born in a barren place like Africa. 1St, you don't know Chinese, Pali or Tibetan. How do you learn Buddha dharma?

Besides, most people are poor and can't even afford 3 meals a day. Where can you hear dharma? Therefore, gentlepeople, never underestimate the importance of cultivating blessings. Cultivating blessings is as important as cultivating wisdom. If no blessing, there is not way you can continue cultivating wisdom.
For example, you run a breakfast restaurant. I need to pay the taxes; children need to study, I live only on the shop that I run. I have to work very hard. No property, my husband is dead, and I'm left alone. Ok, see, she has heard dharma. But the problem is, she doesn't have time. She had no choice but to run the shop to make ends meet. Her blessings are limited to this.
Not many people can be as carefree as you, sitting here to chant Buddha and listen to sermon. This is a great blessing and causal conditions. Therefore, I advise you everyone. When coming to temples, you better bring a joyful attitude. Have a joyful attitude to clean the restroom. That is a opportunity to cultivate blessings. Pay homage to the Buddha, dharma, and sangha with joy. That is a good opportunity and a good causal condition. Hence, blessing and wisdom are called the most two honors for humans. If you only have wisdom, it is great to know dharma but without blessings, that isn't good.
To achieve blessings, you have to be able to give. Once, a lay person came to ask me: May Master tell me in a few words. What's the critical practice in Tripitaka( 3 Treasures) and 12 divisions. What's the key point of practice? “You can give.”
4:00
You can give your body and give your heart. You can give all your property, which is the essence of the sutra, then you know how to practice. If you are unwilling to give and selfish, (you won't succeed). You must be willing to give and be selfless, this is as simple as that. See if you can do it? Right?
Ordinary people see a poor man and take a loaf of bread. This bread, in times of famine. Nobody has food to eat. Those who are willing to give see someone dying of hunger and give him a loaf of bread directly. It's ok for me to die, and let you eat.
Those who are unwilling to give will bite half the bread before handing it to him. Give you the remaining half. I am starving to death but share with you? Let me tell you, giving looks easy, but doing it is hard.
5:00
When you hit a critical point, it becomes very difficult. It is true. Then you know, it's not that easy to practice. It's not just talking, it is too difficult. Giving is easy, right? See, when meeting the master, I offer a red envelope. This is giving too but not a critical point. The so-called being willing to give is the critical point that you get rid of attachments. That is capability.
Suppose you have a multi-million dollar fortune, do you? I give a grand to the master, it's nothing much to do with giving. Even if you offer 10k, it doesn't mean you are able to give. Being willing to give is that when at critical moment, if you have the ability to get rid of selfishness. This is it.
Therefore, Buddha dharma seems simple. In fact, it is not easy to achieve.
